OurStory

As a family-owned business, the history of Madroño Restaurant began with a family that migrated from Nicaragua in 1986. At the head of the family was Abuela Maria, the grandmother, whose recipes led to the creation of the restaurant.

“Abuela Maria’s descendants were paying close attention when she cooked and disclosed her oral recipes. So at the Mejias’ Madroño Restaurant, they ensure the continuity of their Nicaraguan traditions through her dishes.” – Rodolfo Roman (2013, December 19). Martha Mejia (Chef Owner) along with some family members pulled their efforts together and the restaurant was established in November of 1998. The name “Madrono” was chosen because it represents the National Tree of Nicaragua. The restaurant became a stepping stone for many family members including her children; Luis (Manager, Designer & Decorator), Ramon (Manager, Financial Officer) and Rosemary (Pastry Chef). Together, they make a passionate and successful team that has brought Madrono Restaurant to the forefront of the Nicaraguan Food Scene.

So, come on and walk into Madrono… where we will make you feel right at home, a part of our Family.
