OurStory

Madroño Restaurant is a proud family-owned business with roots that trace back to 1986, when the Mejía family migrated from Nicaragua. At the heart of this journey was Abuela María, whose cherished recipes inspired the creation of the restaurant.

As Rodolfo Roman wrote in the Miami Herald (December 19, 2013):
“Abuela María’s descendants paid close attention when she cooked and shared her oral recipes. At the Mejías’ Madroño Restaurant, they ensure the continuity of their Nicaraguan traditions through her dishes.”

Led by Chef-Owner Martha Mejía and supported by her family, the restaurant was officially established in November 1998. The name Madroño was chosen to honor Nicaragua’s national tree, symbolizing their deep cultural roots. The family’s collaborative efforts have made the restaurant a cornerstone of South Florida’s Nicaraguan dining scene.

Each family member brings their unique talents to the table:

Luis – Manager, Designer, and Decorator
Ramón – Manager and Financial Officer
Rosemary – Pastry Chef

Together, they form a passionate and dedicated team, ensuring every guest experiences the warmth and authenticity of their heritage.

Step into Madroño, where you’re not just a customer—you’re family. Let us welcome you home!
